Our attorneys are investigating claims on behalf of Pradaxa users who have suffered from severe bleeding while taking the blood thinner. A number of lawsuits have been filed, alleging that the manufacturer of Pradaxa failed to properly warn doctors and patients that the drug lacked an antidote to reverse its anticlotting effects, putting patients who suffered even minor trauma at risk for irreversible, life-threatening bleeds. Because pharmaceutical companies have an obligation to ensure they provide adequate warnings with their drugs, Boehringer Ingelheim may be responsible for compensating patients or their loved ones for medical bills, funeral expenses and other losses suffered as a result of the bleeding episode.
If you or a loved one experienced a severe bleed on Pradaxa, the first step to seeking compensation is to contact our attorneys by filling out the form on the right. We are currently handling a number of Pradaxa lawsuits against Boehringer Ingelheim and have decades of experience successfully bringing claims against top pharmaceutical companies. There is no cost or obligation associated with this case review.
Pradaxa and other blood thinners are known to pose a risk of bleeding because, in addition to reducing the risk of stroke and blood clots, they also inhibit the formation of “good” blood clots - the ones the body needs for the routine repair following an injury. Unlike older blood thinner Coumadin (warfarin), Pradaxa lacks an agent to reverse its anticlotting effects should the patient begin bleeding excessively on the drug. Essentially, if a Pradaxa user begins bleeding uncontrollably after a fall, car accident or hemorrhage, it may be difficult or even impossible to stop them from bleeding due to presence of the drug in their system and its lack of a reversal agent. It is believed that the elderly and those with kidney problems may be at the greatest risk of uncontrollable bleeds.
Currently, our attorneys are investigating claims on behalf of Pradaxa users who suffered internal bleeding because we suspect that this risk was not properly presented to patients when they were prescribed the drug. We also believe that because the drug lacks a quick antidote, and therefore puts patients at risk for potentially irreversible bleeds, Boehringer Ingelheim released a drug which was unreasonably dangerous and was no safer than older alternatives.
If you or a loved one suffered a severe bleed while taking Pradaxa, it’s understandable to feel as if no amount of money could compensate you for your injury or loss. Taking legal action against the manufacturer may, however, provide you an opportunity to recover compensation during a financially unstable time. It will also seek to hold Boehringer Ingelheim accountable for their actions and hopefully deter such conduct in the future.
